Dear Viewers,

This is a Hyper-Text Multi-Genere Research Project (MGP) created for my AP English 11 class.

Before I researched this project, I didn't know much about the subject other than the general overview presented in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. However, I found the issue presented from that incident to be quite interesting and desired to look into it more in depth.

I was curious as to exactly what the problems American's current mental healthcare system are and how those problems negatively affect our nation's people. Additionally, I'm interested to discover why it is that our society chooses to ignore such a large problem and does nothing to remedy it.

I intend this to be a project for the viewing of the general public of the United States. It doesn't need to reach a more specific audience than that, as the idea is to reach out to the American people as a whole and have us evaluate our culture, mindset, and treatment of the mentally ill as an entire nation.

The genres I have chosen for my research project include a personal narrative blog post I created from the perspective of mother with a child suffering from severe mental illness. Additionally, I have included a timeline showing changes in mental healthcare in the United States over time. Also included are some graphs I created with the numerical evidence showing various problems in the system. Next is a series of political cartoons I compiled that discuss the difficulties of the current American mental healthcare system and the impacts that it can have. Finally, I ended with a news article summing up the issue, its effects, and all its major contributing factors.

Sincerely,
Kira Gaby
